In 1985, Al Rendon was contracted by the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center to cover their events and activities. One of the first events he covered was the Conjunto Festival, and continued documenting the Festival through 1993. Al worked with, was inspired by and instructed in the finer points of Conjunto by Juan Tejeda.
“Working with the Guadalupe awakened my Latino side. After shooting rock n roll and arena shows, the Conjunto work appealed more to my native culture, the crowds were smaller but no less enthusiastic, I related well to the musicians. It was very meaningful material for my lens.” Photographs from the Rendon Conjunto series are available as digital archival prints. They vary in size and price. |
