Impressions of China

In November 2011, Al Rendon joined four other photographers on a trip to China sponsored by UTSA and the China Photographers Association. The five photographers exhibited their images of Texas, and enjoyed a tour of the country, seeing both famous landmarks and everyday life. Their images were exhibited at the Institute of Texan Cultures in May. “It was an amazing trip – I have photographed all over my hometown, and in Mexico and Venezuela. China was a very foreign experience, but it was also familiar on many levels – people going to and from work, using their personal time to stretch and express themselves. It’s a huge country with landscapes and landmarks so wide, it inspired me to create panoramic images. And even though there are 1.3 billion people in China, each one is an individual, worthy of his or her own portrait in context. From the stunning scenery to the unique personalities, China was an experience we will never forget.”
